What Sort Of Idiots Are We Poem by Francis Duggan

What Sort Of Idiots Are We

Since we give our power to idiots to those who refuse for to dream
For a better and a more peaceful world we all must be idiots
'twould seem
Those who tell us terrorism don't have a root cause are those who believe their own lies
And we believe their twisted stories they pull the wool over our eyes.

A baby is not born a terrorist terrorism as such we create
We bomb and invade other countries and then ask how come us they do hate?
Our so called leaders to keep power in their grasp preach to us of the us and they
And for our bad choices of government the price is big for us to pay.

In a world where so many are so poor a festering resentment will grow
And if we do not show respect for others respect for us they will not show
We tell them that our ways are better when we ought to leave them alone
Let those who are flawless step forward and the one without sin cast the stone.

If we want a better and a more peaceful world we ought not to give our power away
We ought to vote for kind and moral people when we vote on election day
Not for those who show traits of aggression who talk of an eye for an eye
They give rise to fear and to suffering and because of them far too many die.

We give our power to the unenlightened and they only offer us fear
And of suffering, death, war and terror too much of these nowadays we hear
Resentment grows in the poor suburbs with the increase of poverty
And since we give our power to idiots then what sort of idiots are we?
