What Might Have Been. By Alfred Loveland

:
If i had my life to live again
it would have to be one with no pain
Its no good saying what might have been
because what is done is what is seen
You try your best but its all in vain
it knocks you down, you get up again
The more you try the more you cry
Outside you look fine and spry
Inside you feel you want to die
Yes I do love life, but not all it brings
I love birds and why they sing
They too have a reason why
To rear there young and
teach them to fly,
but unlike the Birds who can fly away
Because of my life I have to stay
And before you reply and say all is not bad
For most of my life I have been sad
Of course there has been good times, plenty in fact
And mostly got by then, by using my tact
But having to lie and say things were fine
Hurt more than the truth, that they were in decline
Well there you go I have had my say
All now is left is for me to pray
To God to forgive me my sins
and for a new life when it begins
