What Is True Religion? ... Poem by Sharon Smith

What Is True Religion? ...

Rating: 5.0

Do you believe in God?
'Yes I do'..may be some people's reply..
'I go to Church every Sunday..
very strict on this am I'

What do you do the rest of the week?
'What do you mean by this?
I go on Holy days as well
These I never miss'

There is another..who does not go
Do you think that it's a sin?
Should he go to Church on Sunday..
Is it wrong not to walk right in?

This man..he has Sunday off
Praises God all through the day..
everytime he looks at his children's faces..
God hears what his heart would say.

The rest of the week..all six days
He works with the down and the poor
With widows..helping them through their day
If he could he would give more.

At times he feels the urge to go
Gather together with Christian friends
Just to stay refreshed in the Word..
and stays till the session's end

So who is right in their worship?
This Lord is for You to judge
But my heart is leaning more to one side
And I say this without any grudge.

James.1: 27 'PURE RELIGION and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,
and to keep himself unspotted from the world'

Colossians
20 Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21 'Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch! '? 22 These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

Physical rituals are not what the Lord is after..
but be careful not to mock those who do these...
'as they do this in worship of Me.'

The true religion is being like Christ in character, who is merciful, gracious, selfless, unconditionally loving and pure-hearted. Just as what the Lord's brother James said.
