What Is There To Say/ When There Is Nothing To Say? Poem by Shalom Freedman

What Is There To Say/ When There Is Nothing To Say?

WHAT IS THERE TO SAY/ WHEN THERE IS NOTHING TO SAY?

What is there to say
When there is nothing to say?
What is there to do
When there is nothing to do?

Old age idles the soul
And makes the body long for tasks
It is no longer capable of -

Old age weakens the mind
And makes fear of small falls
A constant of consciousness

Oh that I were young again
Oh that I overflowed again
With joy at my every movement
Oh that I could imagine
So much depends
On just what I do-

But what is there to say
When there is nothing to say
And what is there to do
When there is nothing to do?
