What I Need To Do Poem by Kerri White

What I Need To Do

Rating: 5.0

I can dig deep
into my memories;
force myself to recollect
every win, every loss.

I can take all my desires,
spread them out on a table...
like place mats in need of use,
but that won't make them any more attainable.

I can search for something
I'll never find. Die looking for it,
but atleast I'll never know
the extent of my disarray...

But maybe I should start living in the moment,
become satisfied with what I do have,
and quit longing for what I don't.
Maybe completion is in the arms of those who don't stretch too far...

Maybe no one
will ever have exactly what they want,
and maybe sometimes some people get a little less than others,
and maybe I'm one of them,
but I think for once, I should learn to accept that.

Maybe overthinking everything
understimulates necessity,
and I just don't want to run towards something too hard,
only to be out of breath in the end.
