What Democracy? Poem by Edwina Aleme

What Democracy?

Rating: 5.0

What democracy?
An act meant for supremacy
Those arrows pointing toward reach…
As others try to make it breach?
Scavengers of the deep
On an actual trip?

What democracy?
An act aimed to maim
Magnanimity comes to play
And cannot repay…

You told me not to look
But I disobeyed as I see in you a crook…
Can evil win over good?

What democracy?
You asked me not to talk but
My mouth will not be shut
Oh, in the course of democracy
Great mountains collapsed,
Beautiful birds flew half way
The iroko trees broke in halves
Oh! Democracy,
Where is your rightful place
In whose hearts you were meant to be?
Where is the reason in which
That name was given you?
A name given for good to reign over evil
Can the hands of time be changed?
How many more lives need be lost
Before democracy can reign?
Stop the race tracks of violence,
Greed and gluttony for power…….
