We Never Try To Smile Poem by Prophmatt . . .

We Never Try To Smile

If we could explain us, then our relationship hasn't depth. Does one exhaust why one was born?

We are lovers. Sometimes we spontaneously smile. We could be slogging sloppy rain, and there comes to us this smile. You could be standing across the room conversing. I happen to smile this smile so as you smile this smile.

We smile as do others, of course, and by the usual causes. But this smile is sooooooo special.

It is not for oneself, or at one another; it is what it is. It's all that truly matters. It is what one really, really, really wants in all of life. And when we smile this smile our breathing reverently pauses as our spirits repose in graceful adoration. When each of us breathes anew, we begin simultaneously as one.

It is not that we think of what we have and have this smile. We do not have a thought to cause it. It comes via a welling up of us in ourselves. It is an effervescence which begets such exquisite effulgence.

If we are situated apart from one another... it doesn't matter actually locations. We might spontaneously have this smile. I reach for the phone. Or you reach for the phone. The phone never rang. We need not inquire: 'hello'.

Perhaps you and I appear to others as having nothing objectively in common. 'I cannot explain you two, ' they say. But how easily we forget their saying. And probably they're just wishing they could.

If you have this now, I do.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
What is the connection that so many women say they want but that in which they fail to participate. In saying it, they get what is plainly two dimensional- -I Thou, but not Us.
