We Have To Go Back Poem by Shalom Freedman

We Have To Go Back

We have to go back
We have to begin to go back
But when?
It is already too much time doing nothing
The money running out
The irritation increasing
We wait and wait for them to decide
It is too much time
We look out the window
At a world we once moved easily through
We want to be there again
To live
To do things
We feel our own total uselessness
And are angry at ourselves and at the world
We want to work again
We need to work again
We pray it will be soon
We need it so much.
