We Don't Know How To Cry Poem by gary dacus

We Don't Know How To Cry

I have finally come to the spot
Where the rubber meets the road.
Where you open your eyes
But cannot see.
Any farther than the grave.

Many years of struggle and pain.
A story with a beginning,
A miserable middle,
Will finally have an end.

Do unto others
Hasn't worked for me.
I gave and gave and gave
Its time I take for myself,
And I choose to take today.

So dare not shed a tear my friends,
It would be wasted wine.
I needed the tears years ago,
But no one saw the signs.

Place not one flower on my grave.
And do not say goodbye.
Check your friends and family now,
To see if there are any signs.
As I want to make you totally aware.
There is many in the miserable state,
But don't know how to cry.
