I Am You Poem by gary dacus

I Am You

I am a product of you all,
Everyone tried to shape my life.
While I tried to please all
I forgot to please myself.
One day you wake up,
You wonder where, where did my life go.
I ran through it so fast
Didn't stop to even look.
So if you don't like me
Step back and think back.
About the boy everyone thought
They all knew how to raise.
Then turned their backs
When I became all of you.
And all of you were wrong
I am what I am,
Nothing more can change.
I hold my head up high
I take a part of each of you.
To my many different faces grave.
