We Build Empires Poem by Sharad Rajimwale

We Build Empires

We build empires
just by hopping upon a fragile twig
of an indifferent tree
and releasing an army of sweet notes
that rush over
horses of perfumed winds
winning acres of hearts and cities of souls,
engaged in sweet and sour
experiences down on the earth.

We build empires
with no boundaries, no political rancour
no territorial ambition....
We sit on the solitary tree whose roots clamp around
buried empires of yore, now dust encrusted, that many warriors raised
their swords to consecrate in the blood of the innocent.

Our notes of nonchalant songs
weave invisible patterns in the blue vacuum
heralding a new era of empire building.
