Walls Poem by Ashlynn Hawkins

Walls

I spent my life building up my walls
Not letting anyone see the real me
But then you came, and with an angel’s call.
You found your way through my walls.
How could I be so weak?

Well I won’t make that mistake again
You made sure, now we’re not even friends.
I was safe, was secure, was happy.
But now I don’t know.
I rebuilt my walls, don’t you see?
They’re too big for you this time.
You arent mine
Not hers
Not yours.
Now my walls are back up.

You don’t seem afraid, but I’d be.
Going out in the world again
Just pretending we aren’t feeling the pain
Like you never knew me.
Well guess what?
I don’t need you.
I know it hurts, but I’ll stand strong;
My walls are holding me up.

Well I won’t make that mistake again
You made sure, now we’re not even friends.
I was safe, was secure, was happy.
But now I don’t know.
I rebuilt my walls you see?
They’re too big for you this time.
You arent mine
Not hers
Not yours.

Who do you think you are,
Making others bleed over your words?
Well I’m done,
Found my cement to rebuild from scratch.
Now my walls are up.
You can’t break through this time because

I won’t make that mistake again!
You aren’t mine, not hers, not yours!
Not mine, not hers, not yours.
