Tonight Poem by Ashlynn Hawkins

Tonight

I thought you might
Be my knight
But turns out that you’re just the fool wearing tin foil
On his head.
After all that work, all of the toil,
You bring it all to an end.
I guess it’s just my luck,
My fate.
You pulled up in your big ‘ol truck
And took me on that date.

But you didn’t feel the sparks fly, did you?
I thought it was all amazing,
It was all new.
But now I know that it wasn’t the same for you.

Thought you might be my night,
That you just might,
But when it’s all said and done,
And you’re the only one
That could control my head,
You go on ahead.

Take all the time you need,
Because you took all of mine from me.
Time for you to waste your own time,
Since you wasted mine.

But you didn’t feel the sparks fly, did you?
I thought it was all amazing,
It was all new.
But now I know it wasn’t the same for you.

Why couldn’t it have been you?
The one I loved, and held,
My knight.
Well now your spending tonight
All alone, no one to hold.
No one to love,
Just kicking yourself,
Aren’t you?

Well I’m done,
You’re not my knight,
You’re just the fool at the end of the night
Wearing tin foil.
No knight,
No might,
No not tonight.
