Vincent Van Gogh 6 - Vincent's Parents Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Vincent Van Gogh 6 - Vincent's Parents

Rating: 5.0

Vincent Van Gogh was born in a parsonage,
At Zundert, a remote, old village in Netherlands,
To Theodorous Van Gogh & Anna Cornelia Van Gogh.
Born on 30th March 1853, Vincent was their eldest son.
Vincent's younger brother -Theo was born four years later.
There is nothing remarkable about Vincent's childhood.
He started going to school, only at the age of eleven,
And remained in school till he was sixteen years of age.

Vincent's father -Theodorous Van Gogh,
Was a devout clergyman, well dressed
With a black ministerial coat, starched white shirt,
A black bow tie covering the high collar.
He walked around with a high silk hat.
He was called the handsome dominie
And he charmed his parishioners
With his loving nature and good manners.

Theodorus belonged to an affluent Van Gogh family.
They were six brothers -all well-known and reputed.
But Theodorous chose a simple life, to stay in a village,
Away from glamour, hustle bustle of a city life.
He was spiritual by nature and spent his life
In service of God and as a preacher to the villagers.
He condemned evil and wanted his eldest son - Vincent
To follow in his footsteps -to serve God with utmost faith.

Vincent's mother Anna Cornilea Van Gogh was from
The Hague. Her father was a bookbinder to the king.
She was an innocent lady who saw no evil in this world.
However, she was aware of the temptations, hardships in life.
She knew that her son Vincent was different. As a mother,
She could perceive the pain and loneliness in her eldest son.
She would question Vincent ‘ if everything was okay? ',
He would always evade her questions and say ‘ nothing is wrong'.

Geeta, though the 'poem' LOOKS like a poem, it doesn't sound like a poem. But I enjoy prose as well and certainly V. v. (or V.?) Gogh & his life is fascinating. I 'love' the illustration. : ) bri
