Very Old People Make Me Sad Poem by Shalom Freedman

Very Old People Make Me Sad

I am afraid I will be one of them soon
Most of them can barely move
Many just sit all day in their wheelchairs
Frighteningly small and withered
Blind deaf isolated
All their life in a small sip
Or difficult half- mouthful
Oh I wish I was young again
But even more I pray I will never be so old
As to be nothing but a source of head- shaking sadness and pain
To those I love
Very old people make me sad
And I wonder if I soon
Will be making sad
Those I most do not want to.
