Utah - The Curse Of Salem Pond Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Utah - The Curse Of Salem Pond

Rating: 3.5

Let me tell you the story of Salem Pond
And the darkness that dwells within.

Legend has -
In the year 1860,
Brigham Young
Dedicated a new irrigation project -
"Salem Pond"

His promise,
No drownings would occur,
If no one swam there on the Sabbath.

Since then, legend has,
Eight drownings have occurred,
ALL on the sabbath.

January 2005,
A submersed car was found.
A woman's body in the back seat.

The latest victim,
A young scout leader
Pulled down into the murky water.

Beware!
Salem Pond beckons.

My brother was that scout leader. He died pushing a struggling scout to the edge, saving his life. It wasn't on a Sunday.

Hank, I think you're teasing us? Maybe its good to be reminded of the mysteries of life but somehow I don't think that Brigham would have been gifted with the power to curse the waters of Salem Pond, even for such a highminded cause as stopping people enjoy themselves on the Sabbath. Keep teasing...Barney

I suggest readers see the following YouTube video after reading my poem. Then re-read the poem. I have watched the video twice. I felt it was eerie, and I sensed a presence. Video is titled: Salem Pond, Salem, Utah Lightbursts On Water composed by Russell Kaspar - 4-15-2016. Video runs 5: 26. Salem Pond stretches three city blocks through Salem, Utah. Please let me know what your feelings are about the poem and video. Thank you.

Hmmmmm... could a link exist between Salem, Utah, and Salem, Massachusetts, the place of the infamous witch trials? I visited the witch museum in Salem, Mass. last year. It was interesting, but not fabulous. An interesting poem, Hank.
