Upheaval Poem by Ali Rahimi

Upheaval

Silence was once a malignant disease, now a pacifying cure
Brain was once the robust commander, now the frail slave
Art was once man’s creative innovation, now the shallow marketization,
Lie was once an ignoble sin, now a divine virtue
Money was once a filthy taboo, now a holy motto
Power was once corrupt, now sacred,
Beauty was once an asset, now a shame
Truth was once an ideal, now a dark crime
Knowledge was once massive power, now toxic poison
Music was once the norm, now the exception
War was once a disaster, now a bless
Honesty was once the best policy, now the worst naivety
Freedom was once man’s birth right, now a rarity
Ignorance was once a stigma, no an honor, a delight
Narcotics were once toxic, now placid, tranquil,
Hell was once a bad dream now a stark reality
Heaven was once a surety now a mirage, an illusion
Politicians were once genius, now idiots
Simplicity was once a strength, now a failure,
Love was once a fact, now a fiction

once!

Truly, things have taken a negative turn.
