Fall turned into winter
though late summer weather remained.
Winter kicked in
one month after calendar
says it should have.

On windy, winter day,
I walk the 15 blocks
to the needed bus stop.
Not cool.
Low temperature and high wind
cause me to cuss under my breath.
Chilly wait at the bus stop.
Bad boy classmate from years ago
appears out of nowhere and wants to talk.
Ok – cool.
Bus arrives
and bad boy continues to chat
causing me to miss the bus.
Not cool.
Friendly chat till next bus.
It arrived empty.
Ok, cool.
I board for quietness.
Noisy people enter at other stops.
Nonstop cell phone rings
invade my peace.
Not cool.
But what can I do?
Bus driver should request
a lower noise level.
I transfer to a subway car.
Adorable little girl across the way
smiles at me and waves.
Ok – very cool.
While train is in motion
an oversized man enters,
passing from one car into this one.
He looks like he's up to something
as he surveys the car.
Not cool.
He gives me a glance
as he quickly passes
and transfers to the next car.
Ok – cool.
With possible trouble averted
my stop arrives.
I transfer to another subway line.
My weekend begins.
Way cool.
