Two Gates Poem by Jessica Sanukab

Two Gates

I was walking along a path one day
when as I looked ahead
I saw two gates each one distinct
but wondered which was the way

The first to my right was a beautiful sight!
its color was splendid and grand
its doors were wide open
and its road was well traveled
and was upon the most alluring land

The second to my left was old and rusted
twas hidden from plain sight and worn
its gate was too narrow
and its path looked too hard
but there as I stood I was torn

I headed for the road that led to the gate
that looked like a picture from my dreams
I entered the gate and to my surprise
found that not all is as it seems

It seems the path I had taken was well travelled, yes
but far from anything of dreams
I fell into traps some without even knowing
and carried those wounds in my soul

No one was willing or able to help me
for they had wounds of their own
Extremely deep pains and insecure
I travelled the road alone

Until one day the light shone upon me
and something new was revealed
I couldn't believe I hadn't seen it before
I would just turn back around

So as it was I made my way
back to where the gates converge
And this time but with a limp decided to try
the gate that was a little too small

Upon first glance it didn't look to me
like anyone could make it at all
In fact, when I tried I couldn't fit!
even though I had been cut down so small

I tried and I tried for many days
until I finally saw
a Man dressed in white clothing dipped in blood
and He told me about the law

He said that the law was the reason I was failing
and I couldn't make it through on my own
I needed someone else who could help get me through
He said He would make me His own

So together we walked through the narrow gate
and down the difficult way
I still walked with a limp and was bleeding a bit
but He reassured me that He would fix it

Difficult it was and still is to this day
but I wish to inform you of truth
Although it is hard and less traveled by
I do not regret it I must say

Matthew 7: 13,14- Enter by the narrow gate for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way that leads to life and there are few who find it.
