Try To Keep It Simple

Although thought must be clarified,
as Wittgenstein declared,
if logic appears rarified
the process is impaired.
Don’t try to make a dimple
in physics that are meta,
just try to keep it simple,
stick strictly to the letter,
and if you happen to be ready
for logic, and you care
then turn to writing of Sir Freddie,
Alfred, Sir Jules, Ayer.

Peter Edidin writes about the status of philosophy in contemporary society in “I Have Tenure, Therefore I Am, ” in the New York Times Week in Review (January 28,2001) , describing the repatriation of Simon Blackburn from Chapel Hill to Cambridge University where he will occupy the Chair of Philosophy previously occupied by Ludwig Wittgenstein.
