Trusting Poem by Alan Buckholtz

Trusting

Rating: 5.0

What is happening here?
are you feeling
the exquisite tension of need?
unbearable tenderness –
warming tenderness
yet you're frozen...
heart stopped,
yet beating faster
...can we trust?
joined at the heart...
joined at the soul
trying to trust...afraid...been hurt
search for common harmonies
run from each other
vulnerable moments
quaking with fear
exposing our insides out
we try to trust...
love is a warning to itself
that thorns of the sweetest rose
puncture hearts
cautious gazes... quivering dreams –
chancing rejection...stroking fingers
no speech no language
ear-shattering fears
strangling in desperate feint hope
yet the miracle once more
shreds knotted fears
we allow another chance...another gamble,
risk flying off the thin tether of stubborn hope
ambivalence of joy/survival...
I'll keep trying

WOW! You absolutely nailed this one! Every emotion exposed, just as we expose our very souls when we take that chance to trust our deepest needs to another. No guarantees, no crystal ball - we leap off that cliff into oblivion and hope for the best. And each time, the same old fears surface and threaten to destroy us in the process. I understand fully what you have so vividly described here. Linda
