Greetings my fellow Americans
I say unto all
wearing my heart
upon my sleeves
I pay gratitude to thou fallen
Honored and commemorated now they
lay in the Earth
peaceful and quiet.
Reminiscence of history
reflected by the day
When America divided in strife
for Unionists and Confederates
fighting to reclaim what had lost
or what was to be gained
Issues roused
Conflicted about with savage battle
for complete dominance.
But such was to pass
Many great minds lost, youth bled
Women widowed by irony of fate
Precious ones lost on both sides
in the heat of conflict
Raging, consuming hopes till the
War ended by the defeat of Confederacy
Great nations reunite
on occasions as mentioned
Northern sharing the goods
with Southerners in the best of moods
Brothers sharing the best
for what they lost
'In unity lies strength' became
their motto
Harmony and prosperity became United America's
Heirloom
The day is still celebrated
with all greats remembered
All memoirs rejoiced
for the common cause in America
Unwanted grudges settled
upon matters of States.
This day is a lesson
For people of least of standings
'Nations are not made great by ease
But born out of fires
of endurance, suffering
coupled with pains of sacrifice
till the glory is achieved.'

An extremely touching poem that every American should read. Many are not very patriotic today and forget history, the sweat, tears and ultimate sacrifices that go into the birth of a nation. And how important unity is. Thank you for reminding us! Excellent work.
Thank you Sandra :) I intend it for all readers. Americans were great once but as you have said, patriotism is a staggering trend, not only for them but all nations.
