Train Ride Home Poem by William McGehee

Train Ride Home

Lazy sunset, lonly train.
Surrounded, but alone in mind.
City scapes and wild planes
And mountains cause the tracks to wind
My ticket bough for standing room,
Like everyone who came in late,
A book to help me meet the gloom
And now to wonder and to wait.

As the car clicks softly onward
The sunset fast begins to fade.
I pause, then begin to ponder
And gather all the mem'ries made
Of best of times, of all the bad,
Of all the friends I've ever had
