To The Times Poem by Jayson Howard

To The Times

I didn't understand, the dagger in your hand,
And why you came back, to slash me down again.
And I know you've had it in for me,
since that day I told you that you were pretty.
The blood in my mouth, isn't worth spiting out,
not with you around, no blood will touch the ground.
No blood will touch the ground…

After the hours I spent with you,
the walls you made me break through,
And oh, oh, I've never reached you.
Why do you run so far?
Can't you see there's no reason to run and hide,
when you could be here right by my side.

So many chances never taken, was I mistaken,
or could you have taken, taken the chance on me.
But I know you've had it in for me,
since that day I told you that you were pretty.
My souls restless, and you're the best this kid,
this kid could ever need, so why make me bleed?
Why make me bleed?

After the days I spent here,
and when you seem so near,
you weren't too clear.
Why do you run so far?
Can't you see there's no reason to run and hide,
when you could be here right by my side.

I love you.
I loathe you.
Love-hate dear,
Let me bethrothe you.
Let me bethrothe you.

It takes me back…
the thoughts I have,
to the times…
come back.
Come back.
