To Live It Best Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

To Live It Best

A future to have,
Is not without its past.
Or should be lived to ignore,
Those struggles the past has had.
Enduring to arrive,
To achieve a divisive present.
As if a gift to receive.
Leaving many feeling,
What has been accomplished is unpleasant.

A future to live it best,
Is done to better do for the people.
Done to do it with respect.
Done to do not to neglect their needs.
Done to do for a future that is best.
And,
Expected to get.

A future to have,
Must be focused upon with a collective task.
And a people who refuse to use,
Themselves to abuse and harass.
This is not a future,
For anyone wishing to have.

Differences in appearance.
Are no different than opinions,
To hear them and listen to comprehend.
Hopefully we all will agree,
An opinion to offer is a compliment given.
To understand and end,
A foolishness that begins.

Even praying in the way one wishes.
Only has one God's ears to hear.
And living in a future to share it,
Together would be best to do this.
Since without us what future could exist.
If no one survives to recognize it near.

Happiness and peace to get.
Is not a myth that sits in a fairytale told.
A future to have to live it best,
Begins each day.
But can not be done to come at all.
If people are more interested,
In differences, division.
And the pettiness kept...
By those relentlessly feeding racial unrest.
Until there is no future to have,
For anyone to witness the best of it.
