To All My Daughters Poem by Lonnie Hicks

To All My Daughters

Rating: 2.8

To all my daughters who
run with their hair loose
on sunny days,
who still play dress up
in thrift store gowns;
who when together still laugh
and giggle
all at the time.

Who lay our tables this
holiday
with their own special delights
which is angel cake
sugar eyes
plum pudding noses
pumpkin pie
and rose flavored
wine.

And beauteous,
of course, they are
that being especially inside my heart
where every Fathers
Fairy Princesses live.

Now today all grown up
careers with them
and the world's woes
but sometimes
just a little bit at a time
it's nice
to pull back life's curtain
and let them all take just a brief bow
in all their childhood glory
and light the faces
of us parents adoring.
