To A Chilled Person Poem by Jan Freundschuh

To A Chilled Person

Don't argue.
Change the energy.

To a chilled person on a March errand,
Be the unexpected summer sun
On their face,
Prompting the discarding
Of their cumbersome coat....
Warmth all around, provoking thoughts
Of summer's ease,
The heart lifting as Spring
Reverses all,
Hope renewed of being loved and understood.
This leaves the person not
Entangled in enmity,
Having removed the coat
Of their resistance
To cold hearts.

Can I do this?
Nah! , I'm not good at it at all.
I'm the one who wants to argue
To the last lawyerly footnote,
Having put my effort into
Writing my excellent brief,
Preliminary to, putting my opponent
Away for 20 years
For his crime of
Being wrong.

But I too am eyeing
The door to outside,
Where the sun is warm and
Can shine on us both.

I am noticing the difference
Between well thought out argument,
And a warm Spring day.
