Time Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Time

The timing of time is independent
Wishing it to conform to a will is futile
Because time times itself to it's own rhythm
Either you conform to it's dictate or you lose.

The cliche, 'time does not wait for anyone' is time worn
But, those who take it as a cliche
Well, they see stars timed out
Looking up, wishing on a star
At the wrong galaxy
Their destiny having moved on in time.

As early as yesterday we had a meeting penciled for 10am
At 10am a feeble message came in just in time
Letting us know the time of the meeting was now noon.
Realising the import of that which we wanted
The time wasted was granted
But even by midday they failed to arrive

Again, another timeout message
Further 'delays due to unforeseen circumstances'
The meeting finally happened well past 2pm.
It was rushed
Program crushed
The conveners now more acutely aware of time
The sun beginning to shed its shine.

In time we will do a postmortem of why we failed
And as usual the reason will never be nailed.

That, failure is ingrained in our wanton disregard of a thief
The one that taketh stealthily while you lumber and slumber
While you behave as if life owes you a living
It is thieving
Surreptitiously taking away opportunity
And we failing as a community

We, a motley crew of failures
Like hapless sailors
Who failed to prepare the ship before the storm
Had it torn
In time
By time.
