Three Word Poem Poem by Kat Smith

Three Word Poem

my heart beats in my chest

thump

thump

thump

its knocking on my ribs cage

asking if it can leave

your words float around in my head steadily

each syllable tempered

prepared hours before delivery

the look in your eyes wasn't angry

but sad

oh so sad

first because

the reason why

the cause of all this

that was the first calculated response to fall from bitten lips

and at this second I still had hope

I carried that hope like a national treasure, hidden away from the windows of my eyes

so he couldn't see that, that was all I had left

the hope of reason

second word youre

I held my breath as hope tore at my insides

as my soul clawed at my inner walls and screamed at god

begging for mercy

third a

my a scream stuck it self in my throat

WHAT AM I

WHAT AM I

PLEASE

I'LL BE ANYTHING YOU WANT

I'LL BE WHATEVER YOU NEED ME TO BE

please…..

please……..

fourth liar

two syllables

four letters

approximately point seventy three seconds

and that was all it took

my world shook beneath my feet

the stars in my sky blinked out

one by one

like buildings in a big city during a power surge

each star almost exploded with the intensity of their hope

and then one by one the went dark

one by one

the stars in all my sky died

my sun went down for the last time

my moon disappeared

and my world was suddenly dark and quiet

it was so very very cold

and to think

a few words ago

my sky had stars

and my body had feeling

its funny how just a few words can change everything

just a few words

can destroy a world
