This House Poem by Keli Mims

This House

The simple wood floors creak
As if they are speaking under my feet.
The windows see me and rattle
I'm scared that they will tattle.
And the walls they shake and shudder
Moving in and out breathing as loud as thunder.
The winding dark and terrible stairs,
Give a distinct hint of never ending despair
The already dim lights flicker above me,
As if they are threatening to leave.
The air with each step thickened
So dense that in one breath I was sickened
Pieces of the roof begin to fall
Showing the sky, moon, stars, clouds and all.
The sky now threatening to rain
Leaving me cold, naked, and in pain.
The rain pours down this house is no home
I sit here drenched in lost hope and all alone
This house brokenly wishes to be whole and free
This pathetic house is me.
