This First Born Poem by Light Sakpere

This First Born

They said, 'tis the curse of the first born'
All first born must sweat blood, ripped with thorns
Look down on by the younger ones.
No! not this first born

I scanned through families and
Discovered this evil trend
'Almost all first borns are worms! '
But no, not this first born.

Almost all first borns are worms
Weak, small, there to be stamped on
By the younger ones
But no, not this first born

Rebekah may connive with Jacob
To strip Esau of that which a plate of pottage could buy
But I'm blessed with what money cannot buy
Yes! this first born.

Abba Father and I are one and I have won
Abraham's blessings that the power of man's blood
Cannot enthrone or dethrone.
Yes! this first born!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A 'myth' in Nigeria, especially amongst deliverance ministries members about why first born adults seem to be lacking behind in life; their youngers ones seem to be prospering more than them in life.
