They Diminished Poem by Annie Ali

They Diminished

With desires kneaded in pain
Reveries cooked in salty water of tears
They tied the knot of their untiring lives
Into the hurt-scented cloth of hope
The tiffin of resolutions on the bamboo of promises
Holding it firmly on the shoulders of existence
Set on journey for seeking love
Love known to them like a tinge of saffron
On the lands of of mysterious moments
Or a hint of gold dust
To the shores of seas of atonement
Where when they reached
They only found a thousand muses
Lying massacred on death of faiths
This daunting sight stole their vigor
And they diminished into nihility of self
