These Prison Walls Poem by Brenda Weemes

These Prison Walls

She touches the wall
Etched carvings dug deep
From a past...
She gave him her heart
He gave her grief
She gave him a Son
He turned away....

The walls of time, caked with memories
Memories of a time... the world felt as if it stood still
She said I do..
He said I love you..
She gave him 3 sons and a Daughter
He gave her pain....

A hidden mask, she puts forth a smile, a kind word
But beneath she hurts, tired and saddened that what once was
isn't there any more
She gave him her Heart
He took it in his hands and wrung it
She gave him everything that was Her
He gave her nothing but pain in return...

The marriage bed place of love
Went to Shame for that is where... the pain began
She gave him her soul to cherish and hold
He gave her pain, despite it all.
She gave him tenderness
He shrugged it away
She gave him herself...
He brought her Pain

The years swirl around, life's a maze
She touched the wall, her prison, her name
Once a year... the pain was near...
She gave him 19 years...
He's sending it all away
She gave him nothing but herself
He pushed her away...
She found someone new...
He doesn't have a clue...

He's losing her... he's losing me...
I am that woman... touching the wall...
My prison... my life... but I will rise again...
