There Is Good Reason For Me Not To Live Forever Poem by Shalom Freedman

There Is Good Reason For Me Not To Live Forever

THERE IS GOOD REASON FOR ME NOT TO LIVE FOREVER

I am not the person I need to be
I never will be
There is good reason for me not to live forever
I am not that great
And I have weaknesses and sins
And a record and life
Marred with error and mistake and now regret
There is good reason for me not to live forever
I am not worthy of it
So perhaps God was right
To create us in such a way
That we live so long
And then die
And perhaps too then
All these games of endlessly prolonging life
And aiming at immortality
Are senseless and wrongheaded
And dying and leaving this world
When the time comes
May be despite but all the thoughts otherwise
The right thing
For most of usm

Running at tandem is far superior to keeping a single in run for ever. Thanks for the thought provoking poem.
