Their Natural Way Poem by Francis Duggan

Their Natural Way

Your neighbour may forgive you for an affair with his wife
But if he sees you kicking his dog you become his enemy for life
For the bond of friendship with most human beings with their dog until death does remain
And if you abuse their best friend they will never speak to you again

For as long as your dog will live she or he true to you will stay
And is the truest friend that many have seems only true to say
Your partner and children may forsake you but your dog remains your friend
Your dog's love for you is unconditional on this you can depend

For a few nice words a few pats and a good feed every day
Your dog does love you truly and respect to you does pay
By how a man does treat his dog you can quite easily tell
The kind of a person he is and how he treats his family as well

Your dog's love is unconditional and this is not a lie
It is a love that lasts a lifetime until she or he does die
When all others forsake you your dog as your friend does stay
To love you without conditions it is their natural way.
