The Visitor Poem by John Watt

The Visitor

He had come from far away,
it was a long journey for this multi-lingual little fellow.
His mision was to seek out the leader of a country,
preferably this person they call the 'Queen'

So after much observation,
in the dark of early evening,
he made his approach.

'Hello, you must be very important,
I have observed people following you,
and picking up after you.
You don't have to do anything for yourself.'

'It's all about me,
and that's the way it should be'

The visitor was surprised how he towered,
over this leader with so much power.

'What responsibilities are required of you'

'None, I come and go as I please,
and no one denies this of me'.

This answer took the visitor aback,
therefore he thought to try questions of a more general tack.

' For sustenance what is it that you eat? '

' My preference is sirloin tip,
and only the finest cuts should pass these lips'.

' Your style of hair is not typical from what I have seen'

' My hair is only done,
at the finest salons in London!
Now I'm thirsty, so follow me if you must,
but please do not make a fuss'

My what a strange drinking vessel the visitor thought.

The visitor compiled his observations,
and they caused him some consternation.

' There is a lot during our meeting that I have seen,
and I am surprised you are the one they call the 'Queen'.

'I am so much more important than the her,
because I am covered in fur,
I am the royal corgi'
