The Unsung Hero Poem by Khaleel Steir

The Unsung Hero

My hard work goes unnoticed for years. I'm a nobody.
I feel like Robin, Batman’s sidekick.
A pat on the back, at most. Why even try then?
So when will it be my turn? !
Wait. Could it be? Now that everyone is gone, I’m the ONE you need? !
Hold on now. When I’d have to jump through rings of fire to make us look good.
Why should I help you now? Why shouldn’t I just turn my back?
Just like you and everyone else did when I accomplished something.
Yeah, it hurts doesn’t it. Standing in the shade, with a cold winter breeze blowing.
Now that I’m in the spotlight and I’m a somebody. How do you feel now?
Being in the shadow hurts doesn’t it. That’s how I FELT FOR YEARS!
The painful realization that what you do or did doesn’t matter.
Though, I can not do what you did to me. You need me more than I need you.
They NEED me more than you need me. I can’t turn my back on them.
But now, I can’t turn my back on this new opportunity.
Do I do what’s best for me or everyone else.
Do I become Nightwing or stay Robin?
