The Timeline Poem by Alyssa Lynn

The Timeline

It’s like a love song, only it seems I’ve forgotten the words. It’s like my favorite line to the poem I fell in love with, only I didn’t quite do it justice. You’re like my gust of wind, with just a dropp of rain. After all only this recipe keeps the gremlins away. You’re my home sweet home.

Let’s take a picnic to the moon, let’s see how old or young we can act in the month of June. Let’s dance like fools, just cuz we can. Let’s find a random stranger, so we can all just dance in the rain. Let’s make our own lyrics to the love songs we’ve always loved. Let’s write the poem of our dreams, we’ve been dreaming of. Let’s jump, let’s fly, let’s just get away.

It’s the road we’ve taken, and the road covered in broken branches. It’s the ride we chose not to take; it’s that one time when we tried to cook “steak”. It’s that one time when we mixed the wrong chemicals that caused “over exposure”. It’s the day we swore we’d “never grow older”, just forever be like Peter Pan, the day you whispered “I’ll forever be your man”.

Let’s find our very own “stranger” we can forever call ours. Let’s go swimming in the iceberg filled ocean until the titanic rises from the frozen depths to save us. Let’s break all the rules, cuz let’s tell the truth following them was never our style. Let’s send a message in a bottle, and see who finds our deepest darkest of secrets…..let’s invent a time machine.

It’s the time we first met, with eyes so bright, so filled with the acceptance of love. It’s back in the day when I lost who I was, and you were just a mixture of emotional facebook statuses. It’s the night when I was determined to swing myself to the moon….that is before I knew you bought it just for me. It’s the time we almost died because our ribs burned.

Let’s do it all one more time, then a thousand more. I want us to be able to look back and ask ourselves “what did we do all that crazy stuff for? ” You know if we had the chance to do it all again, to start over this timeline we’d do it in a heartbeat. We’d be right back on that train; we’d be the crazy fools all over again.

It’s all about the adventure; it’s all about the danger. It’s all for you, it’s all for your remembrance of this moment. A frozen fragment in time, here now, let’s freeze away it all. Till it’s just you and me, just a simple girl to sing a boy a song for his birthday, this one’s for you.
