The Sounds Of The Music Poem by Kayode Lagbayi

The Sounds Of The Music

A thinning pairs of sticks
Moving up and down
With great dexterity
Are landing on wide skins
Stretched over wooden shells
Set airs in motions
At regular interval and phase
With mixed timbres of sounds

Behold my feet
As it’s tapping on the floor
To feel the classic rhythm
As it booming out of the shells
And chiming arrays of bells
Sonorously in tune
With the rhythms of drums
And the music of claves

A great impulse ‘am feeling
When plucking strings in rows and columns
Vibrating on their bridges
By dynamically rise and fall
Strumming a tune audibly
With a melodious rhythmic pulse,
That Light up the space
And brightly colour the percussive sounds

Polyphonic rhythm fanfare
In its complexity to ears
As fingers tickling the ivories
And generate resound movements
That tickles up the sounds
With the blowing of trumpets and reeds
And pushing up and down of valves
In an ardour display

Hearing voices of men
Both old and young
Echoing the tunes aloud
In harmony that surpass conception
So blend and free
With distinct figure bass
Perfectly in line with the melody
And fused well with the tunes

Harmonious rhythms and tunes
Subdue my depression
And lifted my spirit high
That I could touch the sky
Follow the rhythms in style
I chimed in with glee
Not but to dance
To the sounds of the music.
