The Sleet Shoots The Roof Poem by Aria Ellen

The Sleet Shoots The Roof

The sleet shoots the roof
And I lie here, living proof
That heartbreak must always go on.
My room is a mess
And I feel a little less
Then the cold ground at midwinter's dawn.
If you sang like a bird
I would say not a word
As you flew across the frozen lawn.
But to force these lips to smile
You'd have to stay quite a while
And convince me that young love has won.
Tell the truth and I swear
I won't go anywhere -
As immobile as a small fawn.
If your song is a lie
And you leave me here to die,
When you come back, you will
Find me gone.
If you come back, you will
Find me gone.
