The Silent Ruse Poem by Dhananjaya Premawardena

The Silent Ruse

I walked into the room
that buzzed with noise
to see what I had to do

I sat at my desk
I began to work
I got really bored quite soon

Then I peered across
A sea of boredom
And saw a beacon of light

It was a very bizarre signal
And had such delightful colors
And yet it filled me with fright

But what amazed me more
Was the signal came back to me
And no one ever looked; neither did we speak

I grew nervous and scared
My palms began to sweat
I couldn't find the answers I sought to seek

The signal was human
In both body and mind
with dark brown locks and sneaky grey eyes

The beacon began to imitate
It messed with my mind
It made me do what all sanity denies

Then storms attacked me
The winds ruined me
They left me near completely dead

In terror and fright I finally saw,
that lantern of hope
that I had earlier said

So in my darkest peril
the light rescued this poor sailor
as I saw her, I realized I could not lose

For my fears were broken
My happiness returned
And still no one figured out
Our silent ruse
