Ignorance Poem by Dhananjaya Premawardena

Ignorance

The lambs following the Shepherd
The lambs following the butcher
Who can distinguish between the two?

Walking side by side
Yet killing each other the same way
What is the world coming to?

What is the Truth
and what is the other
Is it only know to those select few?

Who wrote this and who wrote that
What is more believable and what is less
Neither side gives what is due?

The righteous defend the Word
The unrighteous defend reason
Who can choose between the equal two?

Which argument presents more clearly
What lie is best told
When all are lies and equally shared by those two?

Which caused more casualties
Which one is to blame
When all the world is covered in their crimson hue?

What is one to do
With the troublesome two
When there is but one voice speaking
And that one voice, is you?

The dubious nature of man and his inconsistencies are portrayed well in this very simple yet thought provoking poem that is scintillating and well written. Thanks, arya
