The Real Me Poem by Amanda Seltrecht

The Real Me

Rating: 5.0

This is real, this is me, this is who I want to be,
I am sorry, but I have to choose my own destiny.
I am taking two steps forward, and one step back,
This time I am making sure that I stay on the right track.
Because, this is the real me

I will continue to live my life in misery,
I will sacrifice this world to hold you.
All of these tears left inside of me,
I am just a living corpse so leave me be.

Sit around and wonder what it is like to be alone,
Others may perceive you as just another clone.
Do not follow others and do just as they do,
Be yourself, be real, be you.
This is the real me.

You said that we would always be together,
You said that you would always love me.
Those were just a couple of your lies,
Now I am living my life in disguise.

I did not want you to see me,
I did not want you to know who I was.
I was so different that it scared me
And I did not know what to do.

So I sat upon this chair with a noose around my neck
I thought of standing up, but you stopped me and said what the heck
I replied this is not the real me.

You exited the room without a trace,
Not staying long enough for me to embrace
So I stood upon the chair and kicked it beneath me
You left me a stray when you closed the door and walked away

So you see you are the one who drove me to my death
You are the one who made me take my last breath
Thank you for setting me free
Because this is the real me
