The Pressure Of Singledom Poem by Annette Aitken

The Pressure Of Singledom

Rating: 5.0

The pressure of Singledom...

Trying to find a calming oasis
in the desert of my confusion
similar to a voice trapped
within a soundless echo.
So desperate to fall in love
to find a mender of hearts,
to bare one's self
out there for all to see,
showcasing to attract.
Why feel the need to display?
Why feel the need to share?
Is it not okay to be selfish, to go it alone?
To be who I want to be,
not another's blueprint.

Why are we judged, on our single status?

You will indeed find an oasis with date palms and waters of the clearest blue, when you lay upon the sand at night, the moon will come to you with a kiss of peace.... nice poem Annette, emotions in poetry so very well written!

Your words have plucked a cord on my heart's strings... and I hear the sound of my own lament... I say, Yes! It's okay to be selfish... I think selfishness is the most accurate way that we are able to fully identify our innermost desires... A wonderful treatise on self value... I tip my hat to this one dear poetess...

Your latest poems are showing a fine individualistic power. The French writer Malherbe said: I write for myself alone. Your song is yours and being selfish about that is very much OK. We, your friends, shall admire you at your chosen distance.

Well written piece, Annette; when writing with such honesty, the force comes naturally, but sometimes the craftsmanship suffers. You carried it through with elegance and sincerity. Bravo. :) S
