The Rusty Wig Poem by Annette Aitken

The Rusty Wig

Rating: 5.0

The Rusty Wig

I came across a rusty wig
full of lice and mice
and talking twigs
with hairy slugs and
ants that hoot
a spotted toad in knee high boots

It once was said this rusty wig
held magical powers, for those who believed
the stories told of years gone by
for those who wore this crown with pride
would be rewarded, for bravery willed
their fantasy would be fulfilled.

I heard of talk of far-flung lands
were elephants walked doing handstands
the talking trees grew purple feathers
orange parrots made out of leather
the pigs they wore a pinstriped suit
monkies busking, playing the flute

To ride upon the billy goat taxi
with golden teeth and full-length jacket
hippos shopping with their trollies
whilst turtles skateboard, and go hip hopping
For once again the rusty wig
will seek the one who will believe in
other worlds, other than ours
a fantasy escape for just a few hours.

All in all its said to be
The rusty wig believed in me.

Well, if it makes us write as well as this, I wouldn't mind renting it for a while. Despite rumours to the contrary, I have a little head, so it might fit! The descriptions are gloriously funny. Love the hippo with its trolly! Tom.
