The Poison Ivy Poem by Georgia Hindmarch

The Poison Ivy

The soft down of your pale hair
shines, like the silk of spun gold.

The glassy jewels of your azure eyes
dazzle, like those spherical sapphires.

The porcelain colour of your sweet skin
creamy, like the most precious ocean pearls.

The smooth satin of your flowing dress
bright, like the blood-red of glittering rubies.

O! Sweet mask of resentment
-while yours is of great contentment-
Hide my twisted jealous face!

It grows and grows in mine,
The most poisonous of ivy.

Spreads through my cold blue veins,
Winding an intricate web around my heart.

What I would give!
To face a face so sweet
And a heart so swell as yours.
