The Our And Us In The Lord's Prayer Poem by Glen Kappy

The Our And Us In The Lord's Prayer

Rating: 5.0

Each prayer
a drop
in the largest sea—
the water mirror calm.

And it's okay
if first you think
yourself, your family—
those closest to your heart.

But let your care
concern, awareness
ripple ever outward
where they never end—

for like the universe itself
this sea expands forever
and even lazy circles
find the edges of the world.

The story we are told
says our origins are one
and this and the latest 'news'
show we are all in this together.

There's so much to appreciate in this poem. While the poem itself is well-written with compelling lines with meaning as well as craft: 'even lazy circles/find the edges of the world, ' the overall theme is an important one to contemplate and just a great reminder. I also like the parsed, pithy phrasing. I enjoyed this one. Thank you Glen.

What a lovely poem which validates that God is not some Cosmic Santa Claus in the sky to whom we give our selfish (and lengthy) wish- list, but that His heart is toward all of humankind, because He loves us all. So to be in tune with the heartbeat of God, think of others. Because He does. He is listening to prayers all over the world at the same time- - kind of boggles the mind, doesn't it? A wonderfully sweet & sensitive poem! Thank you for this!

And it's okay if first you think yourself, your family— those closest to your heart. But let your care concern, awareness ripple ever outward where they never end— - - - - - - Your poem reflects a feeling of universal brotherhood and it is such a beautiful feeling. This love and good wishes for all is also ingrained in Hindu philosophy. I am citing a Sanskrit Sloka which I pray every day- - Om Sarbe bhavantu sukhinah. Sarbe santu nirahmaya Sarbe bhadrani pashyantu Maa kaschit duhkhabhag bhavet. Om santih, santih, santih' Its English translation is as follows 1: Om, May All become Happy, 2: May All be Free from Illness. 3: May All See what is Auspicious, 4: May no one Suffer. 5: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

Bharati, first, thank you for reading and commenting. Then, thank you for sharing the prayer you pray. I am convinced that all of us who strive to love, all of us who have tenderness of heart, are one family that is doing what God wants. It's the love that matters. Be blessed, sister! -Glen

Excellent poem, Glen. An intelligent look at prayer and its function as a way to show brotherly love for the world of mankind

A powerful concept, my friend. Echoes of the sentiment, Who is my neighbor? So very crucially needed in these times; to have our hearts directed outwardly away from our natural selfish inclinations, and those who would stoke such self-centered passion for their own agendas. even lazy circles find the edges of the world This is my favorite line and a brilliantly rendered visual. A powerful, timely piece, Glen.
