The Old Passionate Flames Burn In Me Again (Italian Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

The Old Passionate Flames Burn In Me Again (Italian Sonnet)

Rating: 5.0

((For Annelize, after Marija Najthefer Popov)

My intimate and loveliest memory
track all the way back and bring me to you;
now years later it's the things you do
that of your purest heart and soul tells me.

Still the beautiful star-filled eyes I see,
wherein sincerity and passion burns true,
still the unquenched fire that holds desire too,
in the woman I wanted my only wife to be.

In maturity I beg for more than just a chance,
for a opportunity to know your soul and mind,
to touch you in each way that a sweetheart can.
Your voice-notes do you as a woman enhance,
in your, in- and outside I do beauty find,
while old flames burn again in me as a man.

Poet's note: I am quoting Marija's lovely poem here as it had been translated by Facenook:

'The Flames Rise Up Again' by Marija Najthefer Popov

'While the fire was burning inside me,
You were looking for the culprit,
The track led me to you,
I cunningly held you,
In fear that you first
Should not pour sand or water on me,
To be a murderer just in time,
And it was needed only as a candle between two fingers,
Turns me off between two palms,
Clinging to itself like red-hot steel,
And like a tattoo in my chest,
Like my thirsty mouth that can no longer find words,
Yet we understand,
Somewhere at this hotspot,
We still are un-served,
We are silent,
The flames rise up again,
To burn us with the touch of fiery union.')
