The Myth Of Immortality Poem by Francis Duggan

The Myth Of Immortality

Rating: 3.5

The myth of immortality by proof has been destroyed
The most influential people we have known about have died
Once the World's greatest army was led by Genghis Khan
Until the reaper claimed him he was a mortal man.

The legend of immortality to humankind does not apply
All air breathing creatures are mortal they cease to live and die
It has been said the soul outlives the body but who can truly say
If our soul will or will not return to dust when from life we pass away

Some of their works still living though the great poets are long gone
And though nothing lasts forever the gift of life lives on
And the Reaper is a true egalatarian exceptions he never make
From the monarch and the pauper the breath of life he take.

The myth of immortality by proof has been destroyed
From the dreaded Grim Reaper there is no place for us to hide
And the wealthy and the famous and those without a penny to their name
By the Reaper who will claim us all are treated as the same.
