The Millennium Poem by Cindy Thacher

The Millennium

Another decade has passed by,
it seems like yesteryear
We tossed our cocktails high
wishing each and all good cheer.

The New Millennium
was welcomed with new hopes and dreams.
Too soon,9/11, NYC was pandemonium
as the world heard their screams.

We all watched in horror
and couldn't believe it was real,
Why the nonsensical furor,
What would it reveal?

'It won't happen again, '
said Mr. President,
We just didn't know where and when
there would be another assailment.

And so, on Christmas Day,2009,
Another American city, another plane
all by his design
Another attempt, his father tried to explain.

Now more safety measures,
don't the authorities see?
Terrorists don't value life
As you and me.

When is enough too much?
Enough hatred, enough war, where is Peace?
or the Human Touch?
When will wars cease?

Do I dare say Happy New Year
with much more to fear?
